Players Code: What does the Club expect from our players?

  • Fair play at all times.
  • Listen and respond positively to the Coaches, Staff & Referees.
  • Adhere to the players’ Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to the laws and the spirit of the game.
  • Have fun and enjoy playing rugby.
  • To do their best at all times on and off the field of play and represent the Club with pride.
  • Support and encourage all other players – remember there is no "I" in the word Team!
  • Come dressed appropriately especially during the winter.
  • Lose with good grace with a commitment to try harder next time.
  • Respect good play from opponents.
  • Always bring a well-fitted gum shield (compulsory U9 and above).

We would politefully request that you talk through the Players Code with your child in advance of attending the OW Warriors.

 

Parents Code: What does the Club expect of you as Parents?

  • Up to and including U9, it is our expectation that a Parent or Guardian will be present at all times during training sessions and matches.
  • Encourage players and coaches at all times.
  • Be Realistic – focus on player’s efforts and the progress they are making rather than winning or losing.
  • Always set a good example – applaud good play on both sides.
  • Support and encourage your child, never criticize them for mistakes, and console them when they lose.
  • Respect decisions of match officials and Coaches.
  • Ensure your kids are dressed appropriately - warm and dry clothes in cold weather.
  • Encourage your kids to understand and play within the rules and to follow the Players’ Code of Conduct.
  • Always ensure kids have water to drink and some food for every session.
  • Please be on time to drop and collect.
  • Always park sensibly, and leave enough time to be on time if easy parking is not available.
  • Support your Coaches and staff & remember they are volunteers. They will make mistakes but will always be happy to take constructive feedback delivered discreetly and appropriately.
  • Report any concerning behaviour or incident to the Child Welfare Officer or President.
  • For U9 and over ALWAYS ensure that your son or daughter has a well fitted gum shield.

I know it is obvious but remember that young people play rugby for their enjoyment and not yours!

 

Coaches Code: What can you expect from the Coaches and Staff?

  • All Coaches and Staff must respect the rights, dignity and value of every young person with whom they work and treat them equally within the context of rugby union, the Club and the team.
  • All Coaches and Staff will place the physical and emotional well-being of all young players above and before all other considerations, including the development of performance of the individual, the team or the Club.
  • The relationship that the Coach and Staff develop with the players must be based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Coaches will ensure that all training and playing activities undertaken are appropriate to the age, maturity, experience and ability of the players under their guidance.
  • All Coaches will encourage players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • All Coaches will be trained to a minimum of Level One standard and will lead and prepare each training session and Assistant Coaches will follow the coaching guidance of the Coach.
  • Not overwork or have unrealistic expectations or overload players with too much technical or tactical information.
  • Keep explanations and examples as simple as possible and make available adequate and appropriate equipment.
  • Never question an official’s judgment or honesty, and make sure that players develop a good understanding of the values and laws of the game, that they respect opponents, teammates and officials.
