Round 1 - 6th November: Old Wimbledonians (42) v Rosslyn Park (12)
The under 13’s began their league campaign on the 6th of November at home to Rosslyn Park B team.
Our 11 registered players were joined by 8 new boys at 9.30 am with an 11 am kick off looming our coaches frantically went about sorting out a team from boys they had only just met and in the club house Richard Mason pulled out all the stops and successfully got all the boys registered on time.
Nico was chosen to captain the team with Tyrone in charge of the forwards. Rosslyn Park started the match with intent and very quickly went a try up and converting successfully. Our lack of playing time as a team was very evident as the boys struggled to hold their positions resulting in Rosslyn Park crossing the try line again this time missing the conversion. Things were looking bleak as Rosslyn Park where moving the ball well and seemed well organised. With 15 minutes gone the Warriors slowly started getting into the game and putting pressure on the opposition with 20 minutes gone Nico took hold of the ball and scored a great try which Charlie converted, this seemed to lift the warriors who finished the half strong with our forwards really starting to dominate although trailing by 12 points to 7 the Warriors now looked up to the challenge.
The second half started with fantastic play by our backs whipping the ball out to the wings where the pace of Michael, Shafique, Nico and Matt started to really ask questions of Rosslyn Park. Shafique scored a great try in the corner and Charlie converted to take the lead. The warriors having now just played 30 minutes of rugby together looked very impressive with our forwards dominating up front and our backs running great lines Rosslyn Park could not believe what was happening. Nico scored another great try and Charlie again converted unfortunately a few minutes later Nico’s game came to an end after a bad shoulder injury. The Warriors really piled the pressure on now with our forwards taking charge of the game, Michael really showed his pace with a great try again converted by Charlie followed by two tries by Rocky and both again converted by Charlie. Rosslyn Park were a very well drilled team and at times moved the ball brilliantly which our boys could learn from but the Warriors although a lot of improvement is needed showed what a good team they could become. This was a great effort by all 19 boys involved and a great 42 to 12 win

Round 3 - 11th December: Old Wimbledonians (50) v Chobham (10)
Our second game on the 8th of December took us away to Chobham. 19 boys again travelled which was great news for my self and the coaches.
The Warriors started the game with the advantage of the hill and settled down quickly our forwards showed their intent from the off with some great scrimmaging Joe whipped the ball out to Charlie on to Olly, Nico and out to Michael who took the ball at pace and scored a great team try, Charlie just missing the conversion. Chobham settled into the game and both teams played some good hard rugby until Alex intercepted a pass and sent Nico off on a powerful run and scored a great try converted by Charlie. We went in at half time 12 points to 0 up but having what was a big advantage with the hill.
We got off to a good start in the second half with Tyrone scoring a good try and Charlie converting. Chobham started putting us under much more pressure and we started to lose our shape resulting in a good try for Chobham they missed their conversion. The warriors settled into ten minutes of good rugby with both Michael and Nico scoring good individual tries both converted by Tyrone. The game lost all its shape at this point and the Warriors will need to learn from this as a stronger team would punish us. Chobham scored another try and again failed in their conversion attempt. Our forwards still dominated even though they had the hill against them and Rocky powered his way to two tries both converted by Tyrone followed by another try from Michael and again converted by Tyrone. A great 54 to 10 win and again all 19 boys involved.

The Pat Wark Trophy - U14's Warriors (98) v Old Mid-Wives (0)
At Old Mid-Whitgiftians Fun Day Competing For The Pat Wark Trophy.
Last Sunday saw the 14s kick off their season with an invitation to compete for The Pat Wark Trophy at the Mid Wives fun day.
Sutton & Epsom were meant to attend to make a triangular competition but failed to attend at short notice. Rumours had it they were running scared of the Warriors. So it was left to the 2 teams to fight it out for the silverware.
The boys arrived to prepare with their attention up on hearing of potential silverware on offer. With a focused warm up behind them the Warriors were ready for kick off.
The boys arrived to prepare with their attention up on hearing of potential silverware on offer. With a focused warm up behind them the Warriors were ready for kick off.
Straight away the Warriors started where they left off last season immediately running hard at the opposition recycling ball, moving it wide and scoring in the opening moments.
Unfortunately for Mid-Wives this set a pattern and with our powerful pack making tackle busting runs and our classy quick back division tearing the defence apart.
Scoring at will the match became more of a training exercise allowing our backs to practise some moves and our forwards to go through their repertoire of line out peels and back row pick ups.
It was great to see the boys keeping their focus and shape right to the final whistle when it would have been easy to drop their level of performance.
This was a tremendous team effort with everyone in the team making significant efforts to achieve such a points margin. However special mention to our flying winger Ursher and our scary number 8 Michael both scoring multiple tries. Declan's swallow dive tries are a spectacle to see (all fine until he drops one) and our second rows were cavorting around like gazelles with Robert scoring possibly the try of his career!
There was a good crowd at the Mid Wives fun day with a good atmosphere at the club house and all that was left was for the Mighty Warriors to be presented the cup by Will Harries (current Welsh International)
Well done to the Under 14s for the clubs first silverware of the season and on setting a record score for any Warriors team. In fact it is one of the largest victories recorded by any Old Wimbledonians team!
